Preparing for your install
What to do before install day depends on your project. Pick the one that fits and you'll see just the steps that matter.
Simple swap
Before install day
- Empty the old unit. Clear out the fridge or freezer the day before and turn off the ice maker.
- Clear the way. Move small items off the counters, and clear rugs and anything fragile from the path between the door and the kitchen.
- Know your shutoffs. Find your water shutoff, gas valve and breaker panel, or let me know if you're not sure where they are.
- New appliance on site. Ask the store you bought it from to deliver it into the house before your appointment, and send me the model number if you haven't already.
- Haul-away is extra. If the old unit needs to go, tell me when you book. It has to be arranged ahead of time for pickup.
Bought from Ferguson, Nebraska Furniture Mart or Warners' Stellian? I install what they deliver, including panel-ready and built-in units from any KC dealer.
Homeowners & designers
Before install day
- Book a Workup early. A Pre-Install Workup before the cabinets are built catches opening, power, gas and venting problems while they're cheap to fix.
- Panel and handle specs to your cabinet maker. For panel-ready units, the panels, handles and hardware should be on site when I arrive.
- Delivered into the house. When you schedule delivery, ask the store you bought from to bring large appliances inside (not the garage) and set them on Masonite boards to protect the floors.
- In the garage? I can move heavy appliances in from the garage for an added fee. Just let me know ahead of time so I can plan for it.
- Access. If no one is living there yet, tell me how to get in (lockbox, door code or a contact who'll be there).

New to working with me? Your first Pre-Install Workup is on me.
On install day
- Arrival window. I'll text you when I'm on the way.
- Floor and cabinet protection. I lay down protection along the path and around the work area.
- Pets and kids. Please keep pets secured and little ones out of the work area while appliances are moving.
- Someone available. The homeowner or your site contact should be there at the start and the end so we can walk through the finished work together.
After the install
- Walkthrough. I'll show you how everything operates and answer any questions.
- Settling time. New refrigerators can take up to 24 hours to reach temperature. Hold off on loading food until they're cold.
- Photos and summary. You'll get photos of the finished work and a short summary for your records.
- Your job number. You'll get a job number on the Install KC sticker on your appliance. Enter it at installkc.com/care any time to pull up what was installed, the manuals and care tips. No account or password needed.
- Warranty. Installs include a 1-year labor warranty. If something isn't right, let me know.
